In 1933, Brooks Walker introduced a brilliant invention to make parallel parking effortless: the fifth wheel. He even received a patent for it in 1935 and spent decades trying to convince the auto industry to adopt it.

In 1952, Walker offered it to Cadillac for just $175 (about $1,957 today). They refused, citing trunk space issues. A year later, he fixed that problem—but Cadillac still said no.
